Hey I think I'd better jot down some afterthoughts beforethey fade away. Anyhow, all these opportunities are also valuable to my ICC competencedevelopment.

Well, though absorbed in organizing activities, I did sitdown for half an hour with a group, and talked happily with a man from Cameroun.

I made a good guess from his accent that he is a French speakeractually. He impressed me with his writing on paper as an aid for his English.

By the way, the two girls impressed me with their casual andinteresting questions such as how long will you call back home, to your Mom/Girlfriend?The answer is once a week he calls hi***other, and almost everyday he talkthrough skype with the girl. The two girls in front of him sighed on thedifference---surely I totally understand it as a mother, a daughter and a wife.

His answer about his experience in China made us laugh heartily! He said in China there are too much homework so that he has to do them latetill 1 pm every night, le**ing no time to all the activities and many kinds ofinvitations.....I'm happy to see a foreigner experience the "torture"most Chinese students, at the primary or secondary level, are undergoing now. Iironically made a self-mockery: We are a hard-working people.

Of course I shared our hardworking feature by specifying ourdaily schedule. For me, for example, I work usu. before 6 am till after9pm.Often get up early or stay up late than that. He, instead, work from 9amto 8pm,as a head (other staff 8 am to 5 pm). I told my Chinese bosse***ay stay up till2 am or 4 am often. He couldn't help exclaiming "my God!"when heheard many such anecdotes.....

Well, I would like to talk about another thing somewhatuncomfortable. One foreign lady taught three of my students to sing a line of aspiritual. Though the rhythm is beautiful, I dislike her act for it's kind of imposingunconsciously their value upon ours.

But as an introverted Chinese, I, may be the three Chinese girls are ofthe same, just complimented and thanked her gently.

I am Wan Liwei from the school of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering.

Our foreign fridends name is Peng Shuai. He comes from Laos, and major in Chinese.His job is in development bank , he is studying while he can get salary. He likes Chinese kung fu. He likes the movies which are performed by Li Lianjie. He also know many other Chinese action movie

actors, such as Zhen Zidan,Chenglong and so on. Our conversation involved in custom in Laos. Their spring festival is in april.And they use water to show their blessing.We talked about economic, including the price level of food ,clothes and house.In the end we talked about tr**elling and he cant stand the cold wind in Taishan.

What impressed me the most is that they are hospitality and relaxed.He actually add my QQ.And asked me if I get hurt after he apologized.Although Laos is near China,he dont h**e much pressure in study.

I think the differences are mostly comes from geographical location,belief and gender.And in a macro way,they are just like us.They h**e a special festival to start a new year and they show respects to elder people.

I am Wang Xuejie from Political Science and Administration college. And its a great pleasure to h**e a chance to communicate with the oversea student named Sika who comes from Ghana. Ghana is a beautiful and rich country in west Africa, which is a democratic state. Ghana  was once a British colony and the official college is English. To my surprise, after the colonization of British, both the goverment and people h**e a crush on the UK, which is so similar with Hong Kong. Just like the UK, the state h**e short power distance. Apart from this, she introduce some delicious food to us, especially something made by rice. I do think its yummy.

However, Sika changed me a lot about the politics of Africa especially peoples  idea of colonization.

I consider the class as a platform which I can make more friends, improve my relationships, learn for-eign culture then h**e a good time rather than only learning something boring.

The foreigners are friendly who give me much happiness and positive influence.Only if they h**e the willing to do something, they will be responsible and serious achieving good results in the end.For example,Edith has a strong faith in Jesius, she tries her best to do everything to obey the rules. She also taught us an english song which just has two sentences but is powerful. We all very happy.

All in all,the time is limited.I hope another chance to meet them again.

Reflections of communicating with foreign students on Inter-culture communication class

11级外院 柏玉莹

This Wednesday, our teacher invited over 10 international students of our University to communicate with us.

Roko is from Fiji a tropical island in the Middle of the Pacific Ocean As a newcomer to china, he’s curious to know anything about Jinan He’s only been learning chinese for 3 weeks he told us that it was hard to learn but he was trying his best. For him, the 4 tons and the writing part were the most tricky part. Interestingly, he said that after learning chinese, he begain to understand why in the first place he considered that mostchinese he had met in Fiji talked loud and seemed to be arguing or quarelling when speaking chinese to eah other----Its all beause of the four tons.

Both Andy and Roko think the living expense of Jinan and their motherland are pretty uch on the same level, but the food price here is obviously cheaper .

They asked e lots of questions about the upcoing winter in Jinan .

‘‘How cold can it get during wintertime in Jinan ? ’’

‘‘How do you guys cope with the chilling coldness ?’’

......

Roko said that the lowest temperature of his hometown wouldn’t be below 17 degress Celsius and that he’d never spend winter in a place outside Fiji, he was a bit worried that he was gonna have a tough time in winter here simply because he’s not used to the piercing cold.We all advised him to bundle up and stay indoors since most houses are equipped with heating radiators .

Andy’s originally from China, his grandparents can speak fluent Chinese but not him. It’s quite a pity that he didn’t know which part of China his grandparents came from.

As for the reason why he studies Chinese,he said that China was becoming more and more powerful, and more and more Chinese were tr**elling to Indonesia,it’d be useful and gie him better prospects for his career.

We really appreciate this opportunity to talk with foreign students , it’s been an extremely rewarding experience.
