1.        In your culture, what provides a sense of purpose and fulfillment to most people? What in your own life brings purpose and fulfillment?

2.        Who or what is responsible for your life? Do you believe in God/afterlife/fate?

3.        Are there any behavioral taboos associated with natural phenomena, such as rain, thunder, floods and hurricanes? Is there any common superstitious belief in your culture?

4.        Have the traditional beliefs changed from your grandparent’s generation to your own? If so, in what ways have they changed? 

 

Identity

1.        Can you think of some stereotypical images Chinese people have of your cultural or ethnic group?  Are they generally positive or negative images?

2.        Do you feel that some of the images are true for everyone in your cultural group? If they are not, which group would be exempt from these stereotypes?

3.        What is a stereotype about one of your cultures that does NOT apply to you?

4.        Spend time describing the one of your cultures you’d like to “unpack.”
